ABOUT

Beathriz Marques creates large-scale abstract paintings that explore silence, memory, and the emotional landscapes between presence and absence.

Born in Brazil and based in Miami, Beathriz is a self-taught artist whose work is shaped by curiosity, lived experience, and a quiet observation of the world. Drawing inspiration from memory, atmosphere, and the spaces between emotions, her paintings invite moments of contemplation rather than explanation.

Working primarily with acrylics and mixed media on canvas, she builds layered surfaces where subtle textures, restrained palettes, and light become part of the emotional language of each piece.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I paint to explore what cannot be expressed through words.

My work begins without a fixed destination. Through layers of oil, texture, and gesture, each painting develops slowly, allowing intuition and material to guide the process. Rather than illustrating a place or a memory, I seek to create an atmosphere, one that invites stillness, reflection, and emotional connection.

I am interested in the quiet spaces between presence and absence, clarity and uncertainty, light and shadow. These contrasts are not only visual; they mirror the complexity of our inner lives.

I believe painting can slow us down. My hope is that each work offers a moment of pause, a space where viewers can bring their own memories, emotions, and interpretations.
